The Wonderful World of Heroes
Just once, I would like to start one of these journals detailing a smooth journey and grand successes. Despite all the preparations that I’ve been making, the track record for the group has been dubious at best. We had managed to make it back to Wesmont without any altercations after dealing with the defilers of the Sacred Summoning Site. Upon reaching the third Temple in my pilgrimage, I received the Pox which deprived me of my senses for almost a week. During this time, it appears that the previous Temple was attacked. With my effectiveness reduced by the burden of my Test, we pressed on, knowing that anything that would have been laying siege to the temple would have been over with prior to us arriving back.
After the fourth temple, we made haste to Wesmont. The guild hall’s rennovations had been completed wonderfully, though I must begin de-etching the wood in my room with Donnelus’s name on them. I may be thankful that he is quick to take the praise and ego boosts for our joint successes, but I do not wish to live with his name staring at me at all hours of the night. Speaking of which, the first town that we had any measure of success in wished to reward us with a banquet. Of course, the hammiest members of our group wished to go. Bored, Remington, Ricros and myself sought an easy task to complete, and were contracted out to solve a break in.
I must say, we did perform admirably. We found the goods, caught the obstinate perpetrator and found out about his affiliation with the Bakers Gang. The entire situation was a reminder how we had adjusted to life on the road, where violence was the easiest and almost only means of solving problems. Our threats fell upon deaf ears; the thug knew that we wouldn’t willingly break the law. It was a rather long ordeal, but worth the quick gold. We also learned a rather dire truth; there are certainly corrupt officials in the town. The tall thug’s tongue was cut out to keep him silent. I do not feel that we have the clout in the city to deal with the politics that would be involved. I hope that when the orcs come, the desire to protect their turf will motivate the thugs to aid us, and perhaps purge their law-breaking habits.
